Outlier, Glasgow

Outlier, 38 London Rd, Glasgow G1 5NB

Outlier is one of those places that keeps whispering in your ears without annoying you.

I do not get easily influenced by social media. The more a place is sponsored by food bloggers or influencers the less I feel attracted as a customer. I generally postpone my visit until the internet vibe is almost gone. This is of course only my personal approach to things, including books and movies. I like to arrive late to the party being sure the party is actually good.

This is why sometimes it takes me so long to try places that are consistently good.

coffee machine at Outlier Glasgow

Once in Outlier, you can enter like in a tridimensional world. Outlier is a cafe, a bakery, a brunch spot, somewhere where to have a quick lunch, a place where to meet friends in front of a coffee or simply a place where to enjoy your time without feeling any rush.

Apart if you are sitting in the spacious window space, I felt there was a bit of competition for those seats.

I chose a little table with the perfect view. Two privileged angles: one facing the kitchen block in the middle and the other one facing the bakery.

Everything was in motion at that time. The bread was getting shaped, breakfast was in preparation. Ingredients and baked goods travel from one side to the other. If you stop a second from what you are doing and observe all these scenes, it seems to be in a movie, probably in New York.

The place is bright even on a bloomy day, it is big and airy but despite this is warm and gives you the feeling of being part of something, a sort of sense of community even if you have never been there before.

The terra tiles alongside the old walls are giving a rustic and in same time elegant touch. I would say like industrial done with extreme class and detail.

The staff is kind, gentle, precise. They observe and are attentive without being insistent.

Your coffee can get cold without you feeling guilty.

selection of freshly baked goodies

Early morning, the counter is full of freshly baked goodies. From Italian Maritozzi and focaccia to croissants, sausage rolls and cakes beautifully displayed. I wanted to have one of each. Try to resist.

Also, mouthwatering sandwiches are available to order from the menu. Honest pricing for the great quality served.

Ordered a latte and a crunchy croissant and while I enjoyed them I lost track of the time.

The full album of Zero 7 was on. Close to me a group of young men discussing work, on the other side a Greek girl with her laptop ordering soup. People reading, others in small groups chatting, could hear their voices in the distance.

A beautiful space where you are allowed to slow down and switch off. Breath.
